Nicola has been with Dart Vale for longer than she cares to remember and works full time in our Totnes branch. She has a long suffering husband, 2 children, both at university and a very spoilt cat , but sadly no longer any horses (though always available if anyone wants one exercised!) When not working she is heavily involved in the local pony club where she is the Tetrathlon team manager and teaches swimming and shooting! and any spare time ? is spent gardening or cake making.
Helen has worked at our Totnes branch since April 2011, prior to that she lived and worked in south Shropshire. She has owned various animals over the years including sheep, poultry and a horse but is down to one cat called Harry at the moment. In her spare time she enjoys riding and driving horses and gardening.
Joined the Practice in1987 as Colin Hair took over Dartmouth Surgery as his father Derek retired. Have been there ever since. Have seen lots of changes from hand written records to computer and the lovely new Surgery in Totnes where my grandaughter Georgia is taking the first steps to train as a Veterinary Nurse. Have three very grownup "children" and four grandchildren. my working life has been various and interesting. Started in Banking on to Education - many Dartmouth and around farmers will remember me from their Blackawton School days! I had a big hand in setting up St Johns School Bridgetown then took over as Manager of the Start Bay Centre for Environmental Education - Should you have the urgent need for the services of a Vet out of Surgery hours overnight and the weekend, it will be me who takes your call !!l Am well used to being woken up at night, but do my best not to disturb the Vet on duty if I can. Cook Sunday lunch for the family on a Sunday with the phone balanced on my shoulder, taking the roast out of the oven! I love my job and will carry on a long as I can.
Carolyn has worked for Dart Vale for a number of years, now mainly based in Buckfastleigh and Ashburton. She owns rescue cats, sometimes adopting from our Totnes hospital. She also has an abiding interest in horses, and carriage driving, and owns four horses herself. Two are young Dartmoor Hill Ponies. Carolyn also volunteers her time to the local charity "Friends of the Dartmoor Hill Pony" doing paperwork and training wild ponies.
Wanda has been with Dart Vale Vets since 2004 and works in our Ashburton, Buckfastleigh, and Totnes surgeries. She is owned by Nelson a Great Dane, Murphy a Springer Spaniel, Indie a Patterdale, and Max an African Grey Parrot (who has a Canadian accent!!) She enjoys long walks with the dogs and spending time with her family.

In her spare time she enjoys gardening, swimming and walking. Prior to joining Dart Vale she worked at AVX Ltd for 21 years and has also done volunteer work at Paignton zoo.
Emily has worked for Dart Vale since 1998. After leaving school she studied at Bicton College and gained a National Diploma in animal care. She used to nurse full time in our Totnes surgery. After becoming a mother she now works part time in our Brixham branch surgery. She has 6 cats, 5 of whom have been adopted from our Totnes hospital! She also has parrots, tortoises, guinea pigs and fish.
Kirsty Prendergast – Large Animal Receptionist
Kirsty joined the practice in November 2016 and is really enjoying being part of the Large Animal Team. Kirsty has worked in veterinary practice previously as a client service manager where she was much more involved with companion animals, so she is excited to learn and gain more knowledge about large animals. Unfortunately Kirsty doesn't have any animals as she works full time and wouldn't be able to give them as much attention as she would like, so she looks forward to meeting all your furry friends when out on the main reception. In her spare time Kirsty enjoys spending time with family and friends and going running.
Sarah joined Dart Vale in January 2015 and works on Saturdays in the Totnes practice. Sarah and her husband, moved to Totnes at the end of 2014 from Farnham in Surrey where she had previously been a Property Manager for a letting agent. She has always loved British wildlife, and up until the move, was a volunteer at Hydestile Wildlife Hospital, working both in the hospital and running an ambulance for rescue work. This led to many creatures being taken home for care including over-wintering hedgehogs, rearing fox cubs, birds etc and giving a home to those that could not be re-released such as one winged Canada geese, ducks and, at one point, 15 ferrets. In recent years, Sarah took on 3 mini Schnauzers who were ex-puppy farm, but just has one left now, Steve, and a Jack Russell cross called Dave plus three cats who are also all rescues.
