Flea Control

Many People are unaware that the fleas that you see are only 5% of the problem. The other 95% is not seen until it is too late! Eggs and flea larvae lie in the environment, mainly your carpets and upholstery, in fact anywhere your pet comes into contact with is at risk. The best solution is to hit the problem early. We can supply some of the best flea control products available; many are only obtainable from veterinary surgeons. For your information we have listed the products we can provide for you and your pets.

Frontline Spray (no organo-phosphates)

Available in two sizes:

• 100ml
• 250ml

This is a pump action aerosol (No harsh spraying noise which we know your pets do not like) This spray is highly effective and will kill fleas on contact. For cats each spraying will last for 2 months and on dogs for 3 months. This means that a 250ml bottle will last a client with a medium sized dog and a cat approximately 8-9 months. It is effective from the first application.

Frontline Spot On (No organo - phosphates)

This product contains pipettes of liquid, which are applied to your pet's neck area. For cats each pipette will last for approximately 5 weeks and on dogs each pipette will last for approximately 8 weeks.

• Cat Frontline spot-on is available in two sizes - 3 pipettes or 6 pipettes.
• Dog Frontline spot-on is available in two sizes - 3 pipettes or 6 pipettes.

This product is proving to be very popular as it is easy to apply and is as effective as the spray.

Advantage Spot On: (No organo-phosphates)

This product is used in the same way as the Frontline spot-on although it needs to be applied a little more regularly. It is an effective help to good flea control.

Program (No organo-phosphates)

Cat have a suspension and dogs have tablets which should be given in food. Both available in a six month supply pack.

This is an excellent all year round flea treatment. It has had extensive research and has proved to be safe for cats and dogs. Program does not kill fleas on contact; its aim is to render fleas infertile so breaking the life cycle of the flea-no eggs hatching or larvae in your household, so no major infestations in your homes.

The program is given once a month every month. We have sold a lot of program and have not had any feedback of pets not eating it - it is promoted as being completely tasteless. It contains a growth inhibitor, which prevents flea eggs from developing and is transferred to the fleas when they feed on your pet. (Fleas do not lay eggs until they have had a nice blood meal)

Flea infestations can be stopped by using program but we do stress that it needs to be used all year round and each pet in your household needs to be treated.

NOW AVAILABLE Program injection for CATS.

Each injection lasts for six months. This is administered by a Veterinary surgeon only. It can be given at the same time as your cat's regular booster so please enquire when you visit us.

Cat and Dog Breakaway Flea Collars (No organo-phosphates)

Our flea collars do work. On cats and small to medium dogs these collars last for 4 to 5 months, obviously becoming less effective in the latter stages of wearing. They may need to be changed earlier in cases of severe infestation e.g. height of summer months when fleas are at their peak. We tend to recommend other forms of treatment for larger sizes of dog. It is a long way from collar to tip of tail! Our collars are safe for "hunting" cats as they have a weak link that will break if the cat should get caught in a fence or hedge. We do not like elasticated collars for this reason.

We also stock Nuvan Top spray which we would point out does contain organo-phosphate. We do not actively promote this product but we do have some clients who still use it and we need to cater for their needs as well.

DO NOT DESPAIR IF YOUR HOME IS ALREADY INFESTED

Acclaim 2000 This spray is for all your carpets and upholstery, to be used everywhere that your pet has access to and will last for 6 months. (This is not to be used on any pets) A thorough spraying plus plenty of hovering will rid your home of eggs and larvae. Do not forget your pets need a form of treatment as well; otherwise the problem will not be solved.

INDOREX This is used in the same way as the Acclaim 2000. However it will last for 12months with one application.
